Abstract:

Integrins are a family of receptors that are known to regulate a large number of biological processes relevant to the functions of the trabecular meshwork (TM) and optic nerve head (ONH). In this chapter, we present evidence how signaling from one integrin in particular, called αvβ3 integrin, can play a significant role in these biological processes and hence the development of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and glucocorticoid-induced glaucoma. We also discuss how the activity of this integrin is controlled in response to extracellular and intracellular signaling events.
